Another autistic blurt and more rumination

My last anecdote made quite an impact, and I’ve been asked for more.

Here’s another classic “blurt” šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

The CEO in a previous job used to like to take a group of employees out for tea and cake at a fancy restaurant (Harvey Nicols) when they reached ten years of service.

When it was my turn to go, there was a conversation about tattoos.

The CEO used to be dead against visible tattoos, but he was now saying he had come to realise and accept that they are commonplace now and not “unprofessional”.

I chimed in with: “I like Leah’s tattoo, it’s really pretty”.

He (the CEO) said: “Leah has a tattoo? I had no idea!”

Leah was the Head of HR at the time, and very professional-looking, always immaculately groomed.

I said, “Yes it’s across the small of her back”.

I had seen it many years ago when she was more junior and wore low-cut jeans and cropped t-shirts to work.

That evening I had such spinning thoughts in my head.

Did I betray her confidence?

Did he think I’d seen her naked?!?

OMG 😱

It’s no wonder I’m socially anxious, huh.

When I messaged Leah to check it was OK to share this story, she said:

“Morning Charlie, I enjoy reading your posts and this is absolutely fine…

P.S. you never betrayed, always an honest, true and great member of the team xx”

which made my day!
