Here is my response to Panorama’s exposé.
Yes, my husband (Shiny Si) and I watched the Panorama “exposé” about private ADHD clinics and found it one-sided and sensationalist.
Si has contacted Panorama to tell them his story of neglect, prejudice, mistreatment from the Birmingham NHS ADHD team, who deliberately fob off as many people as possible. He was eventually diagnosed with ADHD after a thorough and rigorous assessment by Psychiatry UK – the UK market leaders, highly reputable, and not mentioned at all in the programme. They collected a substantial amount of evidence dating back to childhood, his detailed medical and psychiatric history, then conducted a robust diagnostic observation over WebEx. Si is awaiting titration now, which by the way does not involve dishing out amphetamines like sweets – it is careful.
I too am now in the ADHD diagnostic process with Psychiatry UK. My ADHD should have been picked up during my autism assessment in 2018 with an independent private psychiatrist, on my NHS (there are no NHS adult autism diagnosticians in Birmingham so they refer privately). All the clues were there, but ADHD was not mentioned, so it took me a further 4 years and another mental health crisis before I finally identified my ADHD.
