Blue Pumpkins… Just don’t

Considering buying a blue pumpkin for your autistic child this Halloween? Just don’t. It is not fair to disclose their neurotype to complete strangers in this way, and ‘other’ them.

On the unlikely off-chance they get shamed by somebody answering the door, for not communicating as expected, or not being dressed up enough, then here is a little script I wrote to help you advocate:

Giving out treats on Halloween should be indiscriminate. The responsibility lies with you not to be judgemental and ablist. You cannot collect polite thank-yous in a bucket. Practice conscious inclusion, by being accepting and kind to everybody. Now kindly apologise to my child, and give them their treat 👻🍭🍬🍫
