Dear Santa… from Rudolph

Dear Santa,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to you with a heavy heart, and after much consideration, I have come to the difficult decision to resign from my position on your team as the lead reindeer.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of guiding your sleigh through thick and thin, and it has been an honor to be a part of such a magical and joyous tradition. However, recent events have made it increasingly challenging for me to continue in my role. I have experienced persistent bullying and exclusion from my colleagues due to the colour of my nose.

It pains me to admit that my unique feature, which has served as a beacon of light during our journeys, has become a source of ridicule and discrimination. The taunts and exclusionary behaviour have taken a toll on my well-being and have made the workplace environment unbearable. I believe in the values of teamwork, camaraderie, and acceptance, and it saddens me that these principles seem to be overshadowed by prejudice.

I have tried to address the issue with my fellow reindeer, but unfortunately, the situation has not improved. I understand that everyone has their differences, but I did not anticipate such unkindness from those I considered my friends and colleagues.

I want to express my gratitude for the wonderful experiences and memories we’ve shared over the years. It has truly been an incredible journey, and I will always cherish the time I spent as a part of your team. However, for the sake of my wellbeing and mental health, I believe it is in my best interest to step away.

I hope you understand the difficulty of this decision, and I want to assure you that it is not a reflection of my dedication to the joy and magic you bring to children around the world.

Thank you for the opportunities and the many adventures we’ve had together. I wish you continued success in spreading happiness and cheer.

Yours sincerely,

Rudolph

Hang on… Did Santa have a duty of care to protect Rudolph from bullying and discrimination in the workplace related to the colour of his nose? Is social exclusion an unlawful form of bullying in the workplace? How did Santa end up in this situation, were there no HR or EDI policy or guidelines in place? If there were, had they been communicated and enforced? Could Rudolph’s exit reflect badly on Santa’s brand, as well as leaving him short-staffed at his busiest time of the year? Quick, get HR on the phone, they need to sort this mess out!
