Update on my RED Dry January
RED (Run Every Day) January
I smashed my fundraising target. Our team, I Like To Move It (members of the Speakers Collective) made over £1000. There were three days when I didn’t get out to run or walk, due to having a bad cold, but also three days when I ran twice, so I’ll take that. I enjoyed this challenge, and will keep it going beyond January. Thanks to all those who sponsored me, it is much appreciated. RED January is a charity supporting numerous community projects, all focused on improving physical and mental wellbeing through exercise.
Dry January
This was important to me this year, as I had slid back into habitual drinking and had also woken up hungover on 30 December and 1 January. Not a drop of alcohol has passed my lips since midnight on NYE, and I have mostly enjoyed giving my liver a break. I do this from time to time, to check in with myself that I’m not an alcoholic (there is a lot of alcohol addiction in my family). I could probably keep this going, but I may have the occasional alcoholic drink, as long as it does not slide back into the habitual drinking which is the habit I want to break. What I enjoyed the most about Dry January was having more energy in the mornings for work and creative pursuits. My observation was I can enjoy meals and social occasions, even sing and dance, all without alcohol, but I always want to reach for the wine bottle when I come out of emotive and/or stressful meetings. Yes, I can choose to de-escalate by other means, such as writing or talking about my feelings with a nice cup of tea. I intend to make that a permanent change of habit, and will put this in my blog as a reminder.
Thanks everybody for your support 🙂

I’m taking on the RED January challenge, and I’d love your support.
