Apparently Autistic and ADHD women did not get diagnosed during childhood because they inadvertently masked their traits and had no visible differences. Well, maybe some girls, but for me I disagree.
Here is my school report, from the last year of middle school. I would have been 11 or 12. In most subjects I did well, but did not appear to the teacher to be trying (‘attainment’ exceeding perceived ‘effort’).
Here is an interesting comment about my social attitude:
‘Charlotte is self-reliant with a definite point of view on most matters’.
Hmmm…
The general remarks say:
‘Charlotte has excellent abilities – a quick and thorough understanding, combined with an enquiring mind which is not easily satisfied with incomplete answers. This is true over the whole range of school work. Sustained excellence will be achieved when she makes a more consistently executed effort, rather than working on her own terms’.
Hmmm…
No wonder I struggled undiagnosed for so long – just I mask so well (sarcasm).
Sounds like me. One of my favorites was correcting the teacher about a trireme being a ship with three oars. First, their three DECKS of oars made them special compared to contemporaries with two. Second, a ship with three oars would barely move.
